The Northwest is proud to have two candidates for the 2016 CUES Next Top Credit Union Executive Search.

The competition is hosted by CUES, in partnership with DDJ Myers and Currency, and features several phases of competition. Candidates were either nominated, or applied on their own. The first challenge was to create a short video introducing themselves and a project they are working on to impact their credit union, or the industry as a whole.

Shannon Cahoon, Community Outreach Coordinator at Fibre Federal Credit Union ($967M) in Longview, Washington, is developing a turn-key tracking system for measuring the profitability of programs like financial education, business development, community outreach, second chance accounts, and more. She is currently on the board of the Northwest Young Credit Union Professionals, a member of the Executive Committee for the National Youth Involvement Board, and a contributing blogger for CUNA’s Guides to Money blog.

Michael Murdoch, Marketing Specialist at NW Priority Credit Union ($236M) in Portland, Oregon, is introducing the idea of “People Providing Hope”, a collaborative effort between credit unions and other community groups to combat the crisis of teen and young adult homelessness through financial education, specialized banking programs, and job experience. Michael has planned and directed dozens of successful community growth fundraisers, including those for the Portland KitchenLines for Life, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Shannon and Michael will need your help to make it onto the next stage of competition—the top 15.

Beginning today, you can visit the CUES NTCUE website to view all applicant profiles, and vote for Shannon or Michael. You are allowed one vote per valid email address. Voting will be open until July 13. The top 15 will then submit a blog post about their project by August 18, which will be reviewed by a panel of judges. From here, the top five will create an update video, and prepare for live presentations at the CUES’ CEO/Executive Team Network in Savannah, Georgia, on October 24. You can also engage with Shannon and Michael on social media, as this will count as 15% of their overall score.

Let’s show some Northwest support to these two outstanding young professionals! Encourage your staff to visit the competition website and vote by July 13. Stay tuned for updates on other ways you can support Shannon and Michael’s journey!
