“My Credit Union Rocks”

As many of you are aware, the Kindness Rock Project has been circulating throughout the country with a simple goal…to promote random acts of kindness to unsuspecting recipients. My project is to take this one step further and incorporate our credit union message and awareness on the rocks. This is a fun way to invite your community together and inform them about the credit union difference. Our rocks will display messages such as “Join Today,” “I Love My Credit Union,” “People Helping People.” We will write positive messages on them along with our office location and invite people to become a member to experience the credit union difference. This is a fun and inexpensive way to promote credit union awareness. We can place them throughout our credit union locations and in our serving counties to promote membership growth. We will share member testimonies and encourage others to share their credit union stories. I am excited to be a part of the credit union movement and would like to spread awareness to our local communities in which we serve as well as encourage other credit unions to join in on the fun and share the same messages.

Some fun ideas that I will be incorporating into my project is holding a “Family Fun Day” at our local parks in the counties that we serve. This will be open for the entire community to attend, including members and non-members. Several stations will be set up to allow the kids and their parents to participate in the rock painting. Along with the rocks that are painted by the community, I will include “Special Rocks.” The “Special Rocks” will be hidden throughout the community. When the rock is found, they can return it to Long Reach Federal Credit Union and we will make a donation of $25.00 to their charity of choice or provide them with a membership if they are not currently a member. They will also receive a credit union promotional item of their choice. Financial Literacy and information about the credit union will also be available for handouts. This will provide a list of products and services that we offer and an invitation to encourage them to join the credit union if they aren’t currently a member. Drinks and snacks will be provided. A drawing will also be held for all of the attendees who participated. All of the children will be eligible to win a small gift card and will have their picture taken to include on our website and Facebook page. I will post upcoming information with dates and times on our website, our Facebook page, as well as other “Rock Hiding” pages in our area and our local newspapers. I will encourage everyone to share the event and will create a fun-loving, exciting atmosphere for the event. Our mascot, Kirby the Kangaroo will also be joining us and hiding rocks with the kids.  A sign-in sheet will be required for all participants to fill out upon arrival. This will allow us to track existing members and potential members of our credit union.

After the “Family Fun Day” event, I will continue to encourage “My Credit Union Rocks” in our lobby areas and on social media. I am in hopes we will reach out to other credit unions and will encourage them to join in on the fun as well as the awareness of credit unions throughout the country. I will also include our rock painting at our upcoming Kids Super Saturday event that will be held in September.

Again, a little bit of fun and positivity can go along way! I am truly blessed to be able to be a part of this incredible industry and am very passionate about the credit union movement. I look forward to seeing how my project turns out and anticipate a lot of community involvement and support from my colleagues, friends, family and CU family. My Credit Union Rocks!!
